Saint-Alban is the large inner-city district of Bâle located on the left bank of the Rhine. It is naturally one of Bâle's most sought-after districts. Saint-Alban, or Bâle's little Venice, charms locals and tourists alike with its canals and old half-timbered houses. If you're looking for a friendly, romantic and lively part of Bâle, you've come to the right place. However, a popular area also means a closed property market. To find a flat to rent in Bâle and more specifically in Saint-Alban, it's best to multiply the search sites. On the other side of the Rhine stands the Wettstein district. This small town is home to the lively old town, with its squares, bars and restaurants, which will appeal to students and young workers in particular. Still, competition can be tough to find a rental in this part of Bâle.
Between the station and Saint-Alban, another area of Bâle is often plé : Gellert. This area is particularly well planted with trees and boasts some lovely old villas. Property here is also rare, with prices sometimes very high. From the town centre, head for Bâle zoo, from which the residential district of Bachletten stretches out. More remote, to the south of the city, the 260-hectare Bruderholz district is where rental opportunities are most plentiful. With its parks, green spaces and detached houses with gardens, this area of Bâle is particularly sought-after by families who want to live more quietly while retaining the advantages of the big city with its excellent public transport network.
